Do you see clarity?
Unless you happened to click up the one website we missed – probably not.
Websites that sell products related to imagination, passion, creativity, and unique concepts are usually a little, hmm…abstract.
Colors and lights abound. Multiple pictures. Maybe even a scrolling bar that makes you feel dizzy/sick.
A publishing company may publish everything from cookbooks to self-help to political science novels, but they will rarely say so upfront. And, if they do make a distinction, the links are next to impossible to follow.
Your typical quilting store will have five pages, and no blog. A few will have promising product pages, but really nothing to engage the customer with the actual store – just the product.
Take a look at Amazon. Buying a product is easy. Coming back to that particular seller, just to buy again, is rare.
(Note: Amazon makes a great deal of effort to clarify that it sells everything. It takes great care to select out options, to optimize searches, reviews, interactions, questions, and problems… If every seller on Amazon tried as hard as Amazon – nobody would buy things in a real store!)
Clarity is an idea – an idea that requires action; just like your business is a concept, a concept that requires constant hard work and dedication.
Engagement may start as a thought, but it will always end with action…and that action will be communication.
Of course, all of this ends up at the core of most business – marketing. It’s easier to make a product than sell it, easier to sell than to create true, lasting loyalty.
Engagement marketing is also called inbound, or pull, marketing – depending upon your source.
Imagine trying to push a heavy load uphill.
Now imagine an intricate system of pulleys, upon which you can gently pull to achieve the same result.
The pulley system probably took a while to figure out and set up – but in the end it will perform the same, or better, than the pushing. You’ll use less time, sweat, energy and frustration on smartly-applied pulling.
Engagement is just like that. Each cog in the pulley system is carefully designed. Hooks are set out and attached, and then…constant, steady pressure is applied.
And the effect is that, not only can you pull that first load up the hill, but you can pull the next, and the next, and the next.
